NEW PATTERN #280 MA

with Lacy Mamie Blouse Idea

 #280 Mamie

In response to your many requests, we have drafted a round-yoke, gathered dress that's perfect for monogramming! It has sweet ruffled sleeves, trimmed with rickrack. The lined yoke is piped and has plenty of room for embroidery or a monogram.  It comes in two sizes packages: 6, 12, 18, and 24 months, and 3, 4, 5, and 6.

What a perfect dress for a classic "first-day-of-school" photo!  Comfortable to wear on a hot August day, Mamie can be paired with a little cardigan as the weather gets cooler.  Scroll down to see it as a blouse worn with jeans!

Instructions for altering Mamie as in the photo below can be implemented together, or separately:

1.) shortening Mamie into a blouse,

2.) and dressing it up with some lace and a lace rosette!

Supplies:

The white fabric is called Crinkle from Fabric Finders.  Trim is Capital Imports #4005 (bottom) and #156 (sleeves).

To Shorten for a Blouse:

Measure the following length from the seam line at the highest point of the front yoke: this is the finished length.  Add your desired hem length.  If using lace trim, add only 1/4" and see directions at bottom for attaching trim.

This will be your new cutting line.

Finished Blouse Length Shoulder to Bottom (Measurement does not include lace at blouse bottom.)

Sizes 6, 12, and 18 months are too small to make into a blouse.
Size 24 months: 15"
Size 3: 16"
Size 4: 16 1/2"
Size 5: 17 1/2"
Size 6: 18 1/2"

Finishing sleeve edges:

Place right side of lace edging on right side of sleeve at outside edge  (The heading on the lace edging will be closest to outside raw sleeve edge and the scalloped edge of lace edging will be furthest from outside raw sleeve edge.

Using a zigzag (stitch length 2.0 and stitch width 1.0), stitch lace at 1/4" seam line.

Then with right sides together, stitch sleeve lining to sleeve at outside edge.

Trim, turn and press.

Lace Rosette:

Using about 6” of lace edging Stitch ends together to make a circle.

Pull a thread in header to gather lace edging tightly and tie off.

Attach to blouse yoke on side with a ½” – ¾’ shank pearl button.

Attaching lace edging to blouse bottom:

Serge or overcast blouse bottom edge.

Place right side of lace edging on right side of blouse at bottom edge against serged edge  (The heading on the lace edging will be closest to outside raw bottom edge and the scalloped edge of lace edging will be furthest from outside raw bottom edge.

Using a zigzag (stitch length 2.0 and stitch width 1.0), stitch lace at 1/4" serged edge.

Press serged edge under and lace edging down away from blouse.  Topstitch the serged hem allowance (about 1/4") in place.
