Signing Up for Classes
To register, call us at 615-292-1746. Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Class fee does not include the cost of supplies, unless otherwise stated.
Make-up classes are not normally held.
Classes may be cancelled if minimum number of students is not reached. In which case, you will receive a full refund.
Preparing for Your Class
We ask that you purchase your fabric & supplies at the Children’s Corner Store.
For most classes, Children’s Corner supplies the sewing machines, however, on days when more than one class meets we will notify you to bring your own machine.
About Children's Corner Academy
Children's Corner Academy offers a wide variety of classes, from traditional heirloom sewing and smocking to new and updated techniques and patterns.
Classes are offered in-person at our Nashville store and are offered in the spring and the fall.
Beginning Smocking with Bonnie
Thursdays: August 31, September 7 & 14
10AM-12:30PM, $75 + materials
You will be learning traditional English smocking stitches. After purchasing a solid fabric of your choice (before the class if possible), the class fee includes a cut, sew and pleat Bishop gown of you selection, starter needles, and embroidery floss. If you would like to smock for a boy, you can smock on a pleated insert to add to a boy pattern. This is a three-week class. Pictured plate is Rebecca by Ellen McCarn.
Supplies: scissors, fabric for a Children's Corner Bishop, smocking plate (Bonnie can help you with appropriate plates and this can be chosen during 1st class period), floss

Bishop Construction with Bonnie
Thursdays: September 21, October 5 & 12
10AM-12:30PM, $75 + materials
Maybe you remember how to smock, or just completed beginning smocking, this class is perfect for you as you learn how to construct the timeless bishop pattern dress. The class fee includes pleating for your project. Prior to the first day of class, we ask you come in to choose your fabric so it can be pleated for the start of class.
Supplies: Children's Corner Bishop pattern (new version), fabric needs to be selected ahead of class so it can be pleated, basic sewing supplies

Serger Know How with Bonnie
Thursday and Friday, October 19 & 20
10AM-3:30PM, $80 + materials
Bonnie will show you how to thread your serger machine and make any adjustments for a beautiful over-lock stitch. You will also learn how to stitch a rolled hem and gather fabric with your serger. You will complete a garment by the end of the class.
Supplies: Bring your serger, serger instruction manual, all accessories, four colors of thread to match your tension dial colors (Doesn't have to be serger thread), solid-colored scraps of fabric and needles.

Christmas Dress with Bonnie

Thursday-Saturday, November 2-4
10am-3:30pm Thurs, Fri and 10am-2pm Saturday
$100 + materials
Join Bonnie in the classroom for this jam-packed 3 day class! She will teach you how to make a T-Yoke Dress (Sizes 1-6) with smocking on the front and back.
You can customize your outfit with:
- Alternate Sleeve Choices
- Various Collar Options
- Your Choice of a Lawn/Shirting Weight Fabric (see suggested fabrics below!)
Please call to sign up and we will help you make your selections so it can be pleated before class. You must purchase your supplies at Children’s Corner.

Picture Smocking with Bonnie
Thurdays: November 9 & 10
10AM-12:30PM, $50 + materials
Bonnie will demonstrate the techniques for picture smocking, preparation of the fabric, etc. Smocking starter kit included in class fee. Must have a knowledge of basic smocking. (Smocking plate pictured: Creative Keepsakes, Bailey's Butterflies)

Basic Construction with Bonnie
Thursdays: January 4, 11, 18
10AM-12:30PM, $65 + materials
This class is for beginners or anyone who feels they need a refresher on how to make children's clothes. In this class, you will learn how to sew a well-made lined garment. You will learn about fabric, how to cut out a pattern, and how to follow the pattern directions.
Choose to sew for either a boy or girl using one of these Children's Corner patterns: Lucy or Johnny.
Supplies: Bring your pattern (Lucy or Johnny), basic sewing supplies (scissors, pins) and fabric. It is recommended you come by before the class to pick out your fabric.

Bring your project and get help from our experts as you spend the day sewing with fellow sewers. Basic sewing knowledge is required for this class. Sign-ups are per class session.
