Our Team

Honored to continue the 40+ year legacy of the Children's Corner, owner Emily Douglas continues to maintain its traditions and heirloom legacy alongside her incredible team.

Emily Douglas

Emily, owner of the Children’s Corner Store, fell in love with children’s sewing when she took her first smocking class nearly two decades ago. The mother of two, Emily is passionate about the art of sewing and the sense of community that define the Children’s Corner. She has a master’s degree in higher education administration and a background in development.

Cathy Jones

With her lifelong love of sewing, Cathy brings a plethora of skills to the Children’s Corner. She manages store activities, and juggles everything with her infectious smile. Her grandmother taught her to sew when she was a little girl, and Cathy has sewn ever since, creating garments for her children and grandchildren. Cathy has worked for both the store and the pattern business since 1979.

Amy Schuh

A Pennsylvania transplant who came to Nashville for college, Amy oversees the online store at Children’s Corner. She manages the website from product fulfillment to shipping and utilizes her skills as a graphic designer and photographer as well.

Veronica Lovvorn

Inspired by the creative ideas “always present” at Children’s Corner, Veronica uses her engineering background to help draft new CC patterns. In addition, she answers customers’ email questions. Taught to sew by her mother and grandmother, Veronica enjoyed creating garments for her two children.

Claudia Sullivan

With years of experience in the needle arts, Claudia has a love for all things textile – including smocking, needlepoint and heirloom sewing. She finds it rewarding helping customers pull a concept together and hosts a Sit ‘N Sew on Thursday nights. She always has a project on tap for her grandchildren.

Lauren Fortner

Lauren joined the Children’s Corner staff in fall 2021 as an intern. A senior at Lipscomb University, Lauren is majoring in Fashion Design. A native of the Nashville area, she has sewn since age 9, although she just started making clothes in college. “The thing I love most about working at Children’s Corner so far is how kind everyone is and how well everyone works together.”

Greta Harber

Helping customers with the creative planning process for a special garment is one of Greta’s favorite aspects of working at Children's Corner. In addition to working on the floor, she is responsible for ordering patterns and notions. Greta sewed for her son and daughter when they were young and carries on the tradition with her three grandchildren.

Claudette Smith

Style oozes from Claudette from the moment you meet her. With a strong sense of colors and pattern and attention to details, she delights in working with customers to design one-of-a-kind heirlooms for their children and grandchildren. She says she enjoys all aspects of working at Children's Corner because she “loves people.”

Amanda Killebrew

Amanda became part of the Children’s Corner staff in September 2021 and works two days a week helping with fulfillment and pattern packing. Originally from Humboldt, she is married to her high school sweetheart, Kevin, and they have two daughters. “The people at Children’s Corner are what make it such a nice place to work.”

Melissa Sansom

For Melissa, sewing provided a special bond with her mother and grandmothers. When she became a mother to her son and two daughters, she sewed nonstop for them and, to this day, always has a sewing project on hand. She is a gifted teacher for Children’s Corner, helps with pattern testing and sample sewing and works on the floor.

Bonnie Myszka

Bonnie has been devoted to the needle arts since she first hand-pieced a quilt at age 8. She began sewing for others four years later and is a devoted, patient teacher always willing to help her students in any way she can. She teaches beginning smocking, bishop construction, picture smocking and serger know-how at Children’s Corner.

Susan Whitman

A gifted designer, seamstress and teacher, Susan keeps her sewing machine humming. Her relationship with Children’s Corner dates to 1994 when she was hired to make custom clothing. Four years later, when her youngest child started school, she began teaching classes at the shop. She hosts a popular Sit ‘N Sew, teaches classes in the shop and on video, and sews for her 13 grandchildren.
